Not to soon to think of Easter

Sincer Easter is March 23rd this year, it is not to soon to be thinking of Easter. I found this great idea for making Grass Easter Baskets and I think I am going to give it a try this year. I found the idea at Creative Kids at Home. I did not come up with this on my own. The site has a free news letter that you can sign up for to get monthly emails with ideas.

Grass Basket
Don't buy that fake grass for your basket! Ick! Make this instead - it's easy and fun! Best of all, you can compost it when your done instead of throwing it in the garbage or storing it for a full year.

Think about different baskets you could choose. It could be a wicker basket, a brightly colored Easter basket, or even plastic basket. Whatever type of basket you have on hand will work.

Don't worry if you basket isn't water tight. You will put a liner in the Easter Basket as the first step.

Materials

a basket
winter rye or grass seed
aluminum foil
plastic wrap
potting soil
dried flowers (optional)

Two or three weeks before you need the Easter basket, line the basket with the aluminum foil and fill with potting soil. Another option is to line the bottom of the Easter basket with a water tight plastic bag. Sprinkle the top with the rye seed, cover with 1/4 inch of soil, and moisten.
Cover the Easter basket with the plastic wrap to help keep it moist; place in a warm area (on top of the refrigerator is good, if you don't forget to check it!
After the grass has sprouted, remove the plastic wrap and keep a close eye on it. Water if begins to dry.
After a few weeks, you'll have a Easter basket full of beautiful green grass! If the basket needs more decoration, you can weave dried flowers around the edge if you like, and place your eggs (Easter or other) inside.

This Easter, the kids will have a basket they'll never forget!

Remember...Mom did this for us years ago. It was fun. But for some reason I'm remembering a cat eating the grass though....*LMAO* Was that Corona, Sidney, or Mayzie? Who knows....
