My First Baby

I got this from Jandre’s Blog and I had thought it would be fun to do this but with an adoption twist. Then I went to my friend Renee’s Blog and she had already done it with an adoption twist. I was to slow. But I am going to try and do this too.

Here you go mommies - a different kind of survey for a change - it's all about you and your first baby.

1. Were you married at the time?
yes, for 8 years

2. What were your reactions?
On March 10th, at 4:25pm I got a call at work. So excited and kind of in shock. I could not believe that we finally got a call about a baby who needed a home. I was walking on clouds the rest of the day.

3. How old were you?
I was 34.

4. How did you find out you were pregnant?
Well I didn’t find out I was pregnant with my first child since he was a Foster Child but I would have to say that Bryan and I were officially “pregnant” in the adoption sence of the word on February 10th, 2005 when I got the Foster Care License in the mail. The wait began! If you count this as the day I found out I was “pregnant” then I was only pregnant for 30 days!!!

5. Who did you tell first?
I called Bryan and told him that he needed to call the CPS worker back that I just spoke with. I was in a daze, but I think I must have walked out of my office and down the hall to my boss’s office and told her I just got a call from CPS and they had a baby boy that they wanted to place with us.

6. Did you want to find out the sex?
When we met with the Foster Care Licenser we were told that we could designate if we wanted a boy or a girl. The waiting list for baby girls was very very long, so we told her we were interested in a baby boy, but that we were also open to a baby girl. So we didn’t really designate the sex we wanted. But I knew that our first child was going to be a boy.

7. Due date?
I think his due date was sometime in March of 2005. His Birthmother went into labor on March 1, 2005.

8.Did you deliver early or late?
From what I can gather he was born early about 2 to 4 weeks. His Birthmother never went to any pre-natel doctor visits so there was no information in his health history when we adopted him.

9. Did you have morning sickness?
I am not sure if his Birthmother had morning sickness or not, but I can tell you that I didn’t have any during that 30 days of officially waiting, but I was pretty depressed and stressed out before we finally got the call. In fact the weekend before I got that call, I could not sleep and was up on the internet surfing Foster Care Adoption sites in the States of Oregon, Idaho, California, and Montana because I thought that we would never get a call. So even thought I didn’t go through the traditional morning sickness, I did have a lot of stress and emotions running through my thoughts before I got that call.

10. What did you crave?
Not sure what his Birthmother craved. I didn’t crave anything during the waiting period.

11. Who irritated you the most?
No one irritated me, well, maybe just the phone ringing and it not being a call from CPS for those 30 days.

12. What was your child's sex?
Male

13. How many pounds did you gain throughout the pregnancy?
Not sure how much Birthmother gained, but she was already a heavy set girl.

14. Did you have any complications during your pregnancy
Not sure, but I do know she did drugs during the pregnancy and smoked cigarettes.

15.Where did you give birth?
He was born at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

16. How many hours were you in labor?
Not sure how many hours his birthmother was in labor, but after getting that call, it felt like hours before I finally got to the hospital to see my son for the first time. I remember getting lost in the building trying to find the NNIC-Unit. I went to the regular birth area and then was told that he was in the Intensive Care area. When I finally arrived there, I found out that he had some Breathing Apnea spells that caused him to be in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Center.

17. Who drove you to the hospital?
I would assume that the Birthfather drove his Birthmother to the hospital. When I got the call and talked to Bryan and my Boss I drove myself to the hospital, in a state of shock.

18.Who watched?
She had a C-section so I am not sure if she could have anyone in to watch. Maybe the Birthfather.

19.Was it natural or c-section?
C-Section

20. Did you take medicine to ease the pain
I would assume she had Medicine for a C-section.

21.How much did your child weigh?
6 pounds, 13 ounces

22.Did your child have any complications?
Just some breathing apnea spells but other then that ok. He had to be on monitors from March 1, 2005 through March 12, 2005. We brought him home from the hospital on March 13, 2005.

23. What did you name baby?
We named him Spencer Jereme.

24. How old is your first born today?
3 years, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day old!

I love the twist from the adoption process! :) Your little man is so lucky to have 2 wonderful and loving parents. His life would be very different if he'd stayed w/ the BM! He is so lucky!

I'm glad that you did the adoption twist as well! We both went through a lot during the process huh? I would never change a thing!
I will be forever grateful to have known you, since you were the path in which we got our Son!
