Spooky Home

I woke up today with the idea to decorate for Halloween. I pulled out my boxes of Halloween decorations and I guess last year when I boxed things up I threw out many things that I was not using. I didn't have much left. A few costumes and candle holders (which I will probaby get ride of this year- they are ugly! LOL) I was feeling a bit down because I wanted to make a fun, spooky, halloweenie front porch, and didn't have many decorations. Then I opened up my October issue of Parents Magazine and saw all the cute decoration ideas that they had, and thought....I can do some of these!

So with some help from Bryan and Bug I was able to get some old branches off the tree in our back yard, and decorated some plastic pumkins with green string, and stuff some small burlap bags and glue black felt eyes on them.

I also, went out and harvested our three pumkins that were growing in the back yard and put them on the porch too. I pruned a berry bush out in our back yard and stuck them in the flower pots too.

I love how it turned out!

What do you think?

I still plan on doing some spooky silhouettes in our window. Also want to make surgar cookies with halloween patterns. I have some cookie cutters that Bug and I can use, and will try and make some fun frosting to decorate them. Bryan and I will probably be the only ones to eat them, sence Bug doesn't like cookies all that much.

On a previous post (here), Bug and I made a purple fosted cake. He only ate the fosting. Never the cake. But this silly kid says all the time, "I want purple cake!" We will probably say "I want halloween cookies!" days after we make them too.

So are you getting ready for Halloween? What kinds of decorations do you use, and do you dress up in costumes? Do you have any parties that you go to, or other traditions?

love it! I'll have to try some of those ideas. We only have a witch wreath at the moment. I'm trying to find something that I can dress up as each year. It's all still a work in progress here.

Brenda, I love the tree branches. I want to bring some inside and put them in vases on my mantle! We have been collecting all kinds of "treasures" on our walks in Walla Walla. The nuts we find look really nice in a glass vase. When I'm done using them as decorations indoors, I'll feed them to our squirrels in the backyard. We also have bark and leaves we brought indoors. Our porch has a baby scarecrow. I used a plaid flannel shirt Xander outgrew and a pair of overalls. Rain boots are his feet, wads of leaves are his hands. I just stuffed the clothes with newspaper, then propped a $.99 pumpkin bucket on his shoulders for the head and topped it off with a hat. Really cute and easy. He sits in a miniature lawn chair. I would send a pic, but we live in the age of 35mm still.
