Potty Training Success!

I hope that by me finally posting about this wonderful milestone that my son has reached it doesn't jinx it. I am crossing my fingers.

Bug decided two weeks ago that he really wanted the Blue's Room Shape Detectives DVD. He told me over and over that he wanted it. So I decided I would get it for him if he tried to go potty in the toilet. He jumped up and ran to the bathroom and went potty in the toilet. I cheered for him and told him to keep trying all day and he could have the video. I honestly didn't think he would really do it. But 30 minutes later he got up and said he had to go pee pee and he ran to the potty and went again. I was shocked. Cheered him on again. The rest of the day he tried to use the potty but he had a couple accidents. He cried! I was even more shocked. I comforted him, and told him that it takes practice to go potty in the toilet. I told him that I was so proud of him for trying so hard. And I told him that he would be able to do it next time, and not to worry.

I was so surprised that he had gotten upset about having the accident because in the past he never seemed to notice he had peed his pants. I always found him wet. He never came and told me he had an accident.

The following day, I put him in his big boy undies, and tried to remind him to go pee pee in the potty, but I have to be honest I forgot several times and he had several accidents. He was upset and I told him that I was sorry that I had not reminded him. We set up a timer and we promised each other that we would both go use the potty when it went off, and we did.

The next day, he did great, and went several times in the potty with out me having to say anything! In fact there was several times he called out, "I have to go pee pee!" and would run to the bathroom.

His success has progressed to him going to the potty when he wakes up in the morning. I didn't tell him to do this; he just did it on his own. He wakes up and heads out and uses the potty and runs back into my bedroom to tell me. He is so sweet about it, because he whispers! He has been waking up dry for about a week now (that I am aware of), but I am not going to jump to wearing no pull- ups at night right away.

He is having a challenge with #2. I caught him trying to go in his pants on Wednesday late morning and we quickly went up to his potty. He seemed confused about sitting on the potty to go #2, and made some interesting faces at me during the whole process. I reassured him he was doing great. When he was done, we found the results in the potty. I was SO excited!!!!! We ran out into the living room where Bryan and Lady Bug were and shared the exciting news! I screamed so loud that I think the whole neighborhood must have heard me. Then I started to CRY! Bug thought I was upset, and kept giving me a hug, and wiping my tears. I told him these were happy tears. I was just so proud of him.

I ended up taking him out for ice cream to celebrate this accomplishment.

Unfortunately, he has not gone again in the potty. But also not really in his pants. I think the whole experience kind of freaked him out and now he might be holding it. I am pretty sure I caught him holding it (#2) two different times today. I know this is normal and was expecting it to possibly happen, but I wish that he didn't have to go through this. I am fearful that he will hold it and then get constipated and cause some other problems. I am trying to feed him more fiber, to help things move along, and have given him prunes to eat. He loves prunes. We will see what happens in the next day or two. He is known to go up to 3 days between having a BM anyway, so like I said I assumed this could become a problem. If it gets bad I will contact his pediatrician.

In the mean time, I am celebrating the fact that he is consistently going pee pee in the potty and cheering each time he goes. He is working towards getting a few more Blue's Room DVD's that he has been wanting, so the incentive is there. We keep track of how many times he goes either Pee pee or Poo Poo on a chart with smiley faces. He loves it! And I keep telling him that if he goes Poo Poo in the potty he can go to the movie theater and see a movie with Daddy. He loves going to the movies so he does want to go. We will see what happens. I hope I am not putting to much pressure on him.

Here are a few pictures of the ice cream celebration! (as I look at these pictures I realize that his clothes don't match. I have been giving him the freedom to dress himself, and this is what he picked for today. I didn't think we were really going out in public today so I didn't really mind but now I wish I had changed him out of those hideous red sweats.)

**** update!****

I created this post on Sunday morning to post today. I love pre-programing my posts since my time is so short now a days, but I have to tell all my readers, that by the time I saved this post and scheduled it to come up today, it was already out of date. LOL

I had mentioned above that I was pretty sure that Bug was holding #2 and refusing to go. At church last Sunday he told his teacher he needed to go #2 and the teacher brought him to me. I took him to go try but nothing. When we got home and I made lunch Bug was on the lap top watching a Barney Movie, and he started to run around the living room grabbing his bottom. *It is kind of funny but not really because you know what he is trying to do* I asked him if he needed to go #2 and he said NO! I tried to get him excited about heading to the bathroom and trying to go. I reminded him that he would get to go to the movies with Daddy if he went #2 in the potty. He didn't want to try. I got on my lap top and started searching for movies that I new he would like to see, and I found a trailer for Madagascar, and started it. Bug ran over and started watching it, and then he started running around again. I told him to come with me to the bathroom and try to go so he could go see this movie. He ran to the bathroom but still nothing. Then I showed him another trailer and he ran around again....then the lighting struck me! It was obvious that him watching the show/trailers were causing him to relax and his body wanted him to go #2. Why not bring the lap top into the bathroom and let him watch the trailer while he sat on the potty? So we went into the bathroom with the laptop and Bug sat on his potty, and I held the Laptop and he watched the trailer and he went #2!!! Not only once Sunday afternoon but twice! The laptop helped.

I am not sure why I didn't think of it before. When Bug was a baby he had issues with constipation and by the time he was 6 months old it was pretty obvious that he had some issues. But Baby Eisenstein was my saving grace. I swear to you all, that I am not making this up, but I would stick him in front of Baby Mozart and with in 15 minutes he would have gone #2. He was in daycare 3 days a week at this time and they kept telling me he was constipated and I told them I would bring the DVD and they could use it to help him and they didn't believe me. They had their own copy of the DVD and one day tried it out...and low and be hold it worked! I remember how shocked they all were.

Like I said I can't believe I didn't think of this before. He has been successful so far. A bit of a set back yesterday because he has a cold but I am not worried.

Awesome! We're working on potty training right now, too. I wanted to wait until he was a little older, but since he's taking off his diaper and leaving little puddles everywhere, I guess it's about time. Several poop deposits on Friday were the last straw.

We're making progress. My little guy actually has an easier time on days like Sundays when there are more distractions. On a normal weekday he has a hard time staying dry, but he's definitely making progress.

Hooray for no more diapers!

Way to go Bug! He's on his way! You'll have to mount a tv on the wall in the bathroom. *L*

First of all, I am SO jealous he got to go to Maggie Moos! I LOVE that place. :-D

This is all very exciting news!! Now mom, no more screaming in excitement to the point of tears or you'll scare the poop from coming out again! LOL

Congrats on the Potty progress, I hope it keeps up!
